CITY CENTER — Followinga successful pilot program that saw local air quality improve by 12%, the City Council voted 7-2 last night to expand the 'Downtown Green-Zone.' Starting this March, three blocks of Main Street will be permanently closed to private vehicles, transforming into a linear park and outdoor community hub. The project involves tearing up asphalt to make room for 15 new community garden plots and four "Micro-Hubs" for electric scooters and autonomous shuttles. Local residents have praised the move, citing a quieter atmosphere and safer streets for children. However, the decision hasn't been without controversy. Several local shop owners have expressed concerns regarding delivery access and the potential loss of suburban customers who rely on car travel. The city has countered by promising a "shuttle-to-door" service for heavy deliveries and tax incentives for businesses within the zone.
