REYKJAVIK — The cloudis going underwater. Following a successful five-year pilot program, three major cloud providers have announced plans to deploy massive server farms to the ocean floor. By submerging the data centers in pressurized, nitrogen-filled pods, the companies eliminate the need for costly air-conditioning and protect the hardware from natural disasters. The cold ocean currents provide free, infinite cooling, reducing the carbon footprint of these massive compute hubs by up to 40%.
