NASHVILLE — In anincreasingly cloud-based world, the needle is dropping back on physical media. New reports indicate that vinyl LP sales grew by 18% last year, officially overtaking the revenue generated by individual digital downloads. This shift isn't just driven by older collectors, but by a younger generation looking for a "slow" alternative to the infinite scroll of streaming services. Collectors cite 'ownership' and 'intentional listening' as the primary drivers. "You can't hold a stream," says local shop owner Dave Grogan. "A record is an artifact. It has a smell, a weight, and a ritual." This has led to a boom in high-end turntable manufacturing and a revitalized market for "album art" designers. Major labels are responding by releasing limited-edition colored vinyl and 180g pressings, which often sell out within minutes of a pre-order launch. Even as digital streaming remains the primary way people consume music, the physical record has become the ultimate badge of fandom.
